Sauveterre Anglais is a very short stroll from Gwithian’s beautiful beach, wild sand dunes and the Cornish coast path, and is well equipped for coastal living.
Sauveterre Anglais sleeps 5 in 2 bedrooms. It sits in one of the larger plots at Gwithian Towans, on the edge of a quiet group of individual, privately owned, traditional chalets. It has generous decking looking out over St Ives Bay and is set amidst miles of wild sand dunes, nature reserves and cliff-tops. It’s a three-minute stroll away from miles of golden sand and rockpools – one of the best beaches you’ll find anywhere, in Cornwall or beyond. So if you are looking for a spring escape, a summer beach holiday, an autumn surf trip, or a cosy winter bolt-hole, Sauveterre Anglais is the place for you.
All accommodation at Sauveterre Anglais is on one ground-floor level. Step in through the porch and you will find yourself in a well-appointed open-plan kitchen and living area – which connects through sliding glazed doors and down two steps to a conservatory for dining. All other rooms are connected to this central space, giving an intimate and friendly feel to the chalet, and ensuring a light, spacious and airy atmosphere.
The kitchen has plenty of space to indulge your inner chef and is well equipped with granite worktops and plenty of appliances, including dishwasher, induction hob and two fridges. In the living area you’ll find two comfy sofas, a smart TV with Netflix and Amazon Prime, plus a DVD player and sound system – and beyond in the conservatory additional space to dine, relax, read, play or just kick back. There are two bedrooms at Sauveterre Anglais – the master bedroom has an en-suite with shower, a king-sized bed with glorious sea-views through French doors that open straight out onto the decking where there is a luxury outdoor sofa to enjoy the view. The second bedroom sleeps three, with a double and a single bed.
In the bathroom you’ll find an attractive slipper bath with hand shower head. There is also a handy utility room with washing machine and laundry things, and where the central heating boiler is.

The decking at Sauveterre Anglais is the envy of most of its neighbours! You have lots of space to the front of the chalet – equipped with barbecue of course (from March to October) and an outdoor dining area so you can enjoy long-and-lazy meals watching the sun set over St Ives on the other side of the bay. You even have a small shed with beach toys and gear, windbreaks, fishing nets and belly boards for you to borrow during your stay. Behind the chalet you have easy parking for two cars, right by your back door.
There are about a dozen chalets in this privately-managed location, most are traditional, and either beautifully restored or sensitively adapted. All are privately owned and set within their own boundaries and all are accessed via a private driveway which leads to the wild cliff-top area, and to the beach beyond. There are just three rows of chalets at this point and Sauveterre Anglais is in the middle row but benefits from virtually uninterrupted views to the St Ives Bay and to Godrevy lighthouse with a sideways glance.
…about the name: The owners have spent many happy years visiting the beautiful Sauveterre beach on France’s stunning Vendee coast and dreamed of owning a perfect beach house there – until they discovered Gwithian! Now they have the perfect beach chalet closer to home and have made it available for you. Its easy atmosphere encourages you to relax and spend time on the decking, in the conservatory or just lounging. But it’s the location, location, location that makes Sauveterre Anglais really special.
…about the beach: You can be on the beach in five minutes – so pop down to check the surf when you awake, spend all day on the sands with the comfort of the friendly life-guards at hand, have a beach-barbecue later as the sun slowly sets… or even go for a moon-lit paddle. At low tide in summer there is a vast expanse of sand and rock-pools. In the autumn the new swells roll in from the Atlantic and surfers and kite-surfers head into the area…
…about things to do: Do nothing at all, or do everything! You can learn to surf, take a short walk to see the seals, a longer walk for miles along the coast path. Venture to the other side of the bay, to the friendly hustle and bustle of St Ives for the Tate, shopping or fine dining. Pop to the local farm shop or into Hayle for provisions, a great pasty or home-made ice cream. It will all soon feel like home, and many of our guests have returned to Gwithian again and again, bringing friends, children, and children’s children.
