We have mentioned Ben Quinn before in one of our blogs, and have recently had the privilege to sample his wonderful cuisine.
Deep in the heart of St Agnes in North Cornwall lay several traditional mines; one of which is now used for a selection of Cornish-founded companies including Woodfired Canteen, where Ben and his team cook unique dinners over wood fires.
Step into this unassuming industrial unit and you will find a group of hungry guests, a small team of passionate chefs and waiting staff, and an aroma that is out of this world. Everything is cooked over a simple wood fire, so how does it smell, look and taste so good? Ben’s purpose is simple — “we are good people, cooking good food.” And it certainly was. Avocados, pork, sweet potato and aubergines like you’ve never tasted before, all served to you at your table, where you share these beautiful dishes with other like-minded, hungry people.
Bring your own wine/beer/whatever your tipple is and sit back and enjoy the atmosphere and quality produce. For ‘afters’, we enjoyed a simple sweet of chocolate topped with more chocolate and nuts. What’s not to like?!
After this, the skies cleared to reveal the beautiful sunset that those lucky enough to be on the North Coast in Cornwall are able to appreciate. The cliffside was minutes away (close enough to think you had worked off a mouthful of chocolate at least!). The perfect end to a perfect evening.
Ben’s exquisite culinary delights can be enjoyed not only in St Agnes, but from his weekly pop-up in St Ives also. Take a look at the Canteen website for further information and to secure your space for these unique dining experiences.
